Coming straight out of the Sunshine State, -KIDS- are a band who won’t be waiting much longer for their sun to shine. With an original indie sound and a creative approach to everything – their band name came from a Pablo Picasso quote - they’re a breath of fresh air in a genre that’s becoming some-what over publicised. Alexis Boudreaux recently caught up with the band to talk about sailing, house boats and a ton more!
SSP: You have such a simple name, Kids. What’s the story behind the innocent and naive name?
The idea behind “kids” spawns from a quote from Pablo Picasso, All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. Essentially, we we’re all dreamers when we were younger, we had this child like faith, where we believed everything, yet questioned it. Growing up, society tends to neglect that idea, and steer people away from their dreams. There are tons of corporate suits out there with passions for photography or art, and have been led to believe they wont succeed in life pursuing those as a career.
SSP: What other indie/rock band would you compare yourself to?
I don’t think we would necessarily compare ourselves to anyone in particular, but we have been compared by our fans to such bands like, The Killers, Death Cab [For Cutie], Coldplay and The Beatles.
